DonELTA (founded in Rostov-on-Don, 2002) is a rapidly growing local English language teachers’ professional organization and NATE affiliation. This professional community, founded in 1995, includes teachers of English from regional secondary schools as well as University and college level EFL instructors and senior students. The Association holds annual regional, all-Russia and international professional conferences and seminars gathering up to 300-500 participants. Among the most meaningful results of Association are creation of retraining programs for teachers from non-linguistic higher educational establishments (in cooperation with the British Council), publication of materials on basics of assessment (TEMPUS project), establishment of a system for continuing professional development for EFL specialists of the region.
The Association was set up in 2005 on the basis of the Department of Foreign Languages of Omsk State University named after F.M.Dostoevsky. It has united EFL professionals from prom-inent regional establishments of higher education and secondary school teachers. Leaders of the Association have extensive professional background enriched through participation in Interna-tional Projects, on-line distance learning courses and in-service trainings. Traditional annual teacher training seminars and workshops, conferences, Olympiads and festivals contributed to building up a strong professional community attracting more and more participants every year.
English for the Humanities Department (EnHumDep) at Saratov State National Research University has been a collective member of NATE since 2000, though it had a different name then – Chair of the Foreign Languages. Our slogan is, ‘Let us join parts into the whole’, be it study programs, teaching techniques or students with teachers. We are equally happy to learn and to teach. We are sharing our best practices with the English-teaching and English-learning community in and outside Saratov.
The Association was founded in 2006 and, at present, the number of the members of association is 112 teachers from the local schools and thirteen teachers of the English language department of Dagestan State University. The president of KhasELTA is Nokhov Mikhail Magomedovich. Association works according to the yearly plan presenting different undertakings aimed for developing teachers’ professional skills, using new technologies, and practical training. While planning our work we try to use recommendations of NATE conferences. We pay a great attention to studying of local lore and in this way carry out the Head’s of the Republic project “English language speaking Dagestan”. On a regular basis we conduct EFL Olympiads, Skype training sessions with leading Russian and foreign specialists that contributes to promotion and popularization of the English language among teachers and students of the Republics of the Northern Caucasus
